where can i buy an broken down airplane shell/how much would it cost?
I heard they have airplane graveyards, and i would love to buy an airplane shell. I was thinking maybe a commercial plane,or an c17 or something.. It would just be for decoration, i don't want to fix it up or anything...any ideas?
1. The airplane hull would be much too large to ship in any reasonable way, so to get it to your house will cost more than the hull will cost. It can be done by cutting it into sections (like potato wedges) that will fit on a truck, but then it has to be re-assembled when you get it home. A big job.
2. You can find old civilian airliner bodies in a number of places, but they will be expensive. As much as a couple of hundred thousand US dollars, depending on the airplane. The interior, seats, instruments, electronics, and most details will have been removed.
Yes, there are places you can buy an emty airliner shell usually around Arizona, or California. The cost will depend on the market value of the metal (mainly aluminum). Once you buy it you are going to have to haul it somewhere or pay storage if you leave it there. You may have also notice that large aircraft don’t travel well by road. This will cost you another little fortune to move.
Hearing they – what a not bad idea
You would run into two problems:

There are a couple of companies out there building 727 houses! http://www.airplanehome.com/
or http://www.airplanehomes.com/ or even better http://www.gearlive.com/news/article/q208-boeing-727-home/
You can “rent one” in Costa Rica http://craiglyndon.com/2009/06/26/727-house/
There should be some at Goodyear Airport near Phoenix
